good things

Reflections

Signs it is sure to be a good day (~1:15pm):
– Found £5 on the way to work
– Nick put on Merriweather Post Pavilion this morning, an album I haven’t been able to listen to since coming to London because it never transferred over to my new Macbook.
– Internet didn’t connect, so we all got sent home at noon
– So free bedroom for the day while my roommates are still at their internships
– All my internship applications are out
– Journalism advisor has already approved my internship credits
– My iPod is synching to my computer and therefore ALIVE (for now)
– Am rediscovering American Idiot

Edit (9:41pm)
Sign that it is STILL a good day (but not without consequences):
– Had a 45 minute phone call with James about getting together again. Pro: could potentially hang with him and see any combination of the Lake District, Liverpool, Scarsborough, Whitby. Con: he can only hang out the weekend I booked Oxford. Dilemma: scrap my £17 Oxford/Cotswolds ticket to see him, or go to Oxford/Cotswolds and not see him. OR book Oxford another day and spend more money to see it by myself, having to skip the Cotswolds altogether. Conclusion: a serious sacrifice must be made.

Right now, my mind is swimming with packing and getting ready for Scotland Take 2. Hopefully strange people will agree to take my picture, since I’m traveling solo. Also, should I stoop to buy Twilight for the bus ride? More indecision to come tomorrow. Lindsey signing off.

Christmasss

Uncategorized

It’s coming. And it is wonderful that the UK is already celebrating it. I cannot wait to get home and see some snow, and to giftwrap. Wrapping is one of my favorite things, but as good as the feeling is of placing them under the tree. I miss decorating ❤

All I’ve been listening to tonight is Straight No Chaser’s “I’m Yours/Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Really, really wonderful. If you don’t have it on your iTunes, DOWNLOAD IT IMMEDIATELY!

They also do a really neat arrangement of The 12 Days of Christmas, which also deserves a close listen. Acappella inspires me.

Skye High: Booked

Scotland, Travel

I must be a freaking madwoman. I’d like to informally thank Grammie for the advance on my Christmas gift, which is being used for this!

So because I have no class on Friday, I have booked the big trip of my stay. Who knew it would end up being in Skye High, of all places?

I will be going through some fierce bus travel to do it, but my upcoming three-day weekend will take me back up to Edinburgh and on to:
Stirling (William Wallace country)
Glencoe
Fort Augustus and Loch Ness
The beautiful Isle of Skye
Inverness
Culloden Moor
And south past Pitlochry, Dunkeld and Perth

This is Lindsey officially saying that Paris, Stockholm, and Brüges will have to wait for another time.

Just goes to show that Christmas can come early to those who can’t wait (and are half-willing to pay dearly for it).

Work Again

Work Abroad

Back to work today, and nothing new to note. Our internet connection got really bad near mid-afternoon so we were sent home around 15 minutes early. Consequently, I popped over to Jack Wills to try on some things 🙂 And then headed home to talk to the boy, format my Edinburgh pictures, and have some dinner. This post will be short to off-set the previous one, whose pictures will be uploaded in waves throughout tonight and tomorrow. Still debating between Wales and the Highlands for this weekend.

Guy Fawkes Day

England

Internship went slower than usual but we ended up talking about pub life and how Connecticut is NOT part of New York (grr) during the last hour or so, so work days are getting pretty consistent. And I’m enjoying it. I rushed home to check where the fireworks were, but by the time Melissa got back and we managed to get to the area (with tube delays, massive overcrowding, and getting a little lost), we missed them. So the trip was a bust. We took a bus and ended up a tesco (to get a prawn salad! And some chips! The most exciting part of my day!) before heading home to a nice empty room. So much for the 5th of November. Sometime soon I’ll have to come back and celebrate it right.

Womp

Geeky Obsessions, London

No big story for today. Went to work till six and ate too many McVitie’s Hobnobs. Then came home and had a nice long, much-needed chat with my boy, who never ceases to amaze me ❤ And then I ate pasta and tried to persuade Antoine to travel with me to Wales. Then talked with the parents about London LIFE before bed. Hopefully tomorrow proves a much more exciting day—Guy Fawkes day! Which I TOTALLY forgot about. Bonfires and fireworks to come. And pictures to flaunt. Night.

Christmas Lighting

Work Abroad

Today I spent another full day at Cultureshock, researching and uploading theatre venues/productions/reviews. Tomorrow will be spend contacting the press management to get release materials. None of this probably makes any sense to you but it keeps me busy. I like having control and having a full day without any downtime. It makes the time go by much faster.

After work I went to Tottenham Court Road and walked to Oxford Circus to see the Christmas lights that were turned on earlier that night by Jim Carrey?! It was kind of a let down, because most of the lights were blue and their design really had nothing to do with Christmas at all, which is what it should have been about. I gave in and bought a mediocre lamb & mint pasty at some shop before meeting up with Melissa. Then we took the tube to St. Paul’s and walked around a bit on the Millennium bridge and the area. Gave in again and got a mega cookie at Starbucks. Woof. Tomorrow’s dinner: 45 calorie soup, as was ORIGINALLY PLANNED for tonight. I disappoint myself. It’s only 22:18, and I am going to bed.

Tomorrow: the launch of the newly designed CultureCritic website. The theatre section is all my doing! Salad or lean sandwich. Finalizing my classes planner for next semester. Brainstorming for my paper topic due Thursday. And possibly going to the pub to drink a pint (of water). But don’t judge. There will be plenty of pints in Edinburgh this weekend.

Worlds Collide

Geeky Obsessions, London

Work was CRAZY busy today. Apparently, I’m in charge of the entire Theatre section on CultureCritic and it became a day full of research, writing and editing copy, gathering reviews, uploading profiles, contacting press departments, and keeping track of Twitter feeds. I’m almost starting to regret being so upset earlier about this job. I spoke up and they gave me a position chock-full of experience.

And after work, and texts and phone calls, I got to meet Bekky! We walked around and ended up at a Tandoori Indian restaurant and ate some delicious grub (chicken tikka with naan) and then found ourselves in Starbucks ordering Vanilla Chais (which she paid for and made me wibble) and sitting to chat. And we talked about everything–from literature and poetry to university, our cultures and their stereotypes, relationships, London, and everything inbetween. And I know you will read this eventually, so I just wanted to say that you were beautiful and wonderful and it was so, so great to finally meet you. Our conversation was lovely and I apologize for talking so much–I was just so excited and had so much to say!

One day I will visit Copenhagen, and hopefully we will have a chance to catch up again.

Tomorrow, internship till six then out to Oxford Circus with Melissa to see the Christmas lights get turned on! And pictures during the week? Impossible! But going to happen.
