London Day Trip: Dover & Canterbury

England

Today I woke at the ungodly hour of 7:30 (having gotten home at 4 in the morning eek) to make good of my social programme trip to Dover and Canterbury. It poured ALL DAY 😦 And the winds were so bad that they ended up closing Dover Castle (a fortified structure. Doesn’t make sense to me either) so I only got really rainy pictures of the outside. Whatevs. Hopefully they will reimburse us.

Halloween

Nightlife

Halloween night sucked, as well as the day in general. Don’t want to go into detail, except we went to Camden but did not get into Electric Ballroom so went down the road to The World’s End for shots and drinks, then The Underworld to dance. Took two hours to get home. Went to bed around 4.

Lincoln’s Inn & Somerset House

England

My art history class today led us to Lincoln’s Inn on Chancery Lane, where we trespassed through some gorgeous old buildings and little parks. Then we trounced through Covent Garden and St. Paul’s Church and finally through Somerset House where we saw the remnants of London Fashion Week. Pictures to come. Then I went home to munch on snacks, talk to Mark, clean my closet, and listen to music. Tonight I’m planning on clubbing with friends at Disco24 for an early Halloween night out. I’m going as a flapper? Maybe? If people are dressing up, although my hair is SO LONG to work with so we will see what happens.

Tomorrow I’m going to check out some gym prices and maybe maybe maybe go find Brick Lane, or find a legit costume, or just run in the park. Lately, life in London has been planned day-to-day. Not what I expected to do at all. Let’s hope it lasts longer this way.

Today work went a lot better than expected. Oli stayed home because his cat passed away 😦 so I was left with very little tasks to do in the morning. That afternoon, after a desperate plea for work, I was relocated downstairs where tasks like no other kept me busy. And an email to Sarah successfully got me working for Theatre editorial on Monday! Score! AND I emailed a classmate back in Boston about her internship and it’s looking good with the Improper Bostonian. I have high hopes for my semester back home.

The Jack Wills Unsigned concert was cool, I must say. OPEN BAR was AWESOME (the effects are still wearing off). We like free drinks!

The boys were cute, the girls were tall and skinny and gorgeous, and Melissa and I actually liked one of the bands so much we bought their EP. The Brent Flood!

I wore my Jack Wills shorts I bought and all was good for a free night out (and wristband to match). But I definitely felt out of place with everyone, especially because they all seemed to know each other. No lowly American could stand a chance in there. But now on the agenda: more JW clothes. I ❤ Jack Wills.

Tomorrow: class again. And a trip to the gym.

October 28th

Work Abroad

Wow I almost forgot to post today. Would have been TRAGIC. Was even in bed for two hours, too. Today, work from ten to six. Oli’s cat was sick and he was upset so wasn’t given too many tasks to do. Went back to Harrington to write my tutorial paper till 19:45, then went to Waitrose to grocery shop for the week since all I had in the fridge was vodka and lettuce haha. Then went to the room the check the internets, take a shower, come down with a massive headache, and get in bed at 23:00. Must mean I’m sad/strained but there’s nothing to be done about it.

Tomorrow: work till six, internship tutorial 6-8, then using my private invite to attend the Jack Wills Unsigned concert 8-? at King’s Road. I’m excited!

Goodbyes

Work Abroad

Yesterday:
work till 6
went souvenir shopping then out to dinner at the Black Lion (roast chicken dinner)
back in the room to watch ridiculous tv (Crank) before bed

Today, I had workkk again. Still same old marketing stuff. Mark met me at my lunch break and we went to an Italian bakery to eat some good chicken paninis. At three, we said our goodbyes on the Tradescant corner before I headed back to finish up my day. Dinner consisted of a vegetable samosa and not-quite-ripe banana which was eaten on the walk back to my apartment. The night afterwards has been spent updating the last few days’ posts and will hopefully end on a higher note than stinging contacts, 0% done on essay, and no mood for being awake even at 21:10. I want the weekend, the Dover&Canterbury trip, and time for myself.

His last night in London

London, Photography, Quotes

Whoo over 1,000 hits since this weekend!

So today, I had my internship till 18:00, which meant no daytime hanging out. Fortunately, he got to show himself Camden Market and visit the inside of the Tower of London! With pictures to prove it! And he bought me the most ADORABLE little Paddington Bear dressed up as a Beefeater. SO good to me! I’m still deciding what to name him.

After reuniting after a long day, we walked around the little souvenir shops around Bayswater Tube Station and eventually decided to eat dinner at the Black Lion, the local pub. Things did not work out and I didn’t get the yorkshire pudding like I wanted but nonetheless, a hearty meal. We decided to spend his last night in London down by the water again.
