Second day at internship

London, Work Abroad

Internship went the exactly the same as it did yesterday, but at least I was expecting it. Thursday I’m supposedly going to an art fair with some coworkers, but I’m not holding my breath. Oh well, I guess this is what it feels like to be at the very bottom–I just thought I’d be doing some journalism work at all instead of the marketing crap.

I rushed home at 6 to get in my comfy bed and relax. Melissa came home with her friend Alison from home around 7 and the three of us went to Stanhope Arms for some food (BBQ chicken wings and nacho chips with water) and lots of good chatting and catching up. I justify the money-spending with needing to let go of the stress of the past two days. Afterwards, I bought a chocolate croissant at Tesco before heading home to deal with the noise of our room. Finally got to have a decent conversation with Mark too, which always makes me feel happy and loved and special and worth something ❤ He is so good to me. Anyways, am listening to more Leisure Society (LOVE them. For multiple reasons) and am going to take a much-needed hot shower before going to bed early. I needed a lot of things today! My bed, good eats, chocolate, Mark, Leisure Society, shower = ingredients for sure survival of bad days.

I also feel like I need to have a picture here just to balance out my intense narrative. Hmm.

cat

There’s a fat cat for you, seen in Wath on the way to Christine’s house. Sleepy and ADORABLEEEE.

First day at internship

Work Abroad

was, to put it mildly, not the best of days. It probably wouldn’t have been as bad a feeling if I didn’t just spend the last week/end in heaven. But I spent the entire 10am-6pm day in front of a computer looking up sites that would put my company’s link on them for free. And tomorrow, I will talk to my supervisor about my research, and then learn how to ‘put an email together.’ I felt miserable all day because I was put in front of a computer and not introduced to anybody, and therefore was ignored until closing. I really felt like 12 years old.

And to top it off, my roommates have two girls staying in our room all week which they didn’t tell me about. Six girls, one shower, first week of working, and no patience left. Nine are in the room currently, and all I want to do is curl up and fall asleep early and not be judged by what I’m wearing and how low my voice is and how I’m being ignored by all of them.

Leaving Leeds

Leeds

Leaving Leeds was sad because I don’t know when and even if I will be back. James took care of me so well and was such a gentleman I’m kind of still in awe how smoothly the entire trip went.

Anyways, I have to remember to get up there to visit the Lake District with him and Jeff because it has to be done before I leave for home. I would definitely give up Sweden for it. I spent the train ride home sleeping and gazing out the window as the rolling fields swept by. I will miss the north greatly. I still think I could live here.

Now I am back home and accepting the reality of London again while updating all my entries from Yorkshire. Hurray for good internet! Tomorrow, first day of Cultureshock Media. Wish me luck!

Night in Leeds

Leeds, Nightlife

Quick because I am so smashed right now I can hardly type. Went out to Browns for drinks with Jeff and James and got a Rum Punch. The place was very posh because guess what was on the menu!
sidecar

We left quickly for dinner at the expensive-but-worth-it-because-you-only-live-once Piccolino (rigatoni and tomato sauce and garlic bread and so, so filling). Later went to some place for more drinks for a girl’s birthday before going to Ha Ha Bar to get MORE drinks and James bought me two shots (one jeagermeister and one black licorice thing) and I am drunk right now it’s kind of ridiculous. Went back to the apartment after closing time at 2:30/3am to hang out with the housemates and watch some prank videos they took of the apartment.

I took a few pics but nothing good. An absolutely PRICELESS time spent with locals from Leeds–I would have spent more money (and worth it) coming here than all the time traveling England and Europe together. It’ truly a genuine and fantastic and unforgettable experience. James treated me so well and even invited me back for another weekend which would be fantastic and hopefully possible if we can coordinate our schedules. Tomorrow I’m going to take the 11:40 train to London and have enough time to sort things out for Monday–my first day at internship. More updates soon, along with some mediocre pictures! Time for beddddddddd.

Leaving for Yorkshire

Travel

Seeing as how I’m not thinking about taking my computer with me, who knows how much internet access I’ll have up north. This might be the last post you see from me until the weekend, so here we go: it’s going to rain the entire time up there! And I’m not so excited about that! But can’t worry about it now, I have an exam in 50 minutes. Talk to you all soon! Cheers ❤
